India possesses a rich culture with a millennia-old history. The subcontinent offers far more than Western perceptions often convey — an extraordinary plurality of languages, scripts, worldviews, and ways of life.

To discover this diversity, to convey it, and to foster intercultural exchange between Germany and India is one of the founding goals of the German Indian Foundation.

But India’s significance extends beyond culture. As an innovation powerhouse and partner in education and research, India has grown into one of the world’s largest economies. GIF accompanies this development through cultural exchange, societal dialogue, and the building of interdisciplinary networks across education, culture, and society. Connecting the world’s largest STEM talent pools is one of our key pillars, alongside integrating ambitious reform programmes for education, research, and industry in both countries.

Our aspiration is to create spaces for encounters, set impulses for cooperation, and promote exchange between Germany and India in many areas — with a view to society, education, research, and above all, the shared future.

Founded on 6 July 2025 as a registered non-profit (gemeinnütziger Verein), GIF operates as an independent think tank and convening platform. We produce original research on the bilateral themes that define the corridor today — from AI and semiconductors to green energy and skilled migration — and we translate that research into curated dialogues where the people who shape this partnership actually meet.
